SCHOOLING THAT MAKES THE WORLD A MORE BEAUTIFUL PLACE
One of the coolest colleges in the Mother City - if not the whole country - offers learners a fun and focused way to get matric and then an internationally recognised diploma, while training for a stimulating career they could take anywhere in the world.
Since opening it’s doors in 1991, the International Academy of Health and Skin Care (IAHSC) in Cape Town, has proved that it has the right formula, with most of its graduate students going on to enjoy working in health centres, cosmetic houses, at health farms and hydros or spas, on luxury passenger liners, in pharmacies and departments stores or even with their own salons, almost anywhere they care to settle on this busy planet.
The Academy is accredited with the Department of Education and offers various learning options. Commonly, students embark on two years of formal Senior Certificate education (Grade 10, 11 and 12) taken simultaneously with subjects that lead into a final year of beauty therapy training obtaining all the international beauty therapy qualifications. Learners also have the option of taking a full time two-year International Diploma course if they already have a matric certificate gained elsewhere.
With the accent on practical work, classes are kept small so that students receive individual attention and easy in-depth access to the latest therapies and technologies.
Founder and Principal, Maja Grewe believes that the strength of the cademy - turning ten in September this year - lies in the fact that it offers a safe and student-friendly learning environment as well as a holistic and highly focussed career training subject structure that goes way beyond mere education.
“One example of this is the accent we place on the development of a student ’s communications and entrepreneurial skills,” she said. “Commonly, we find that very soon after many graduate students leave us, they have moved through the ‘first job/working for a boss’ phase and have opened up their own salon or similar. This makes them independent and able to take their skills and flourish almost anywhere in the world.”
The obviously highly successful International Academy of beauty and Skin Care offers students - mostly young women - secure and very comfortable hostel accommodation as well as access to first class recreational facilities.
