NEWS RELEASE 17 OCTOBER 2001
OPEN DAY AT LEEUWENHOF TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CHILD WELFARE
Premier
Gerald Morkel and his wife, Hazel, will open up their home and hearts to
Capetonians by hosting an open day in the splendid garden surrounds of
Leeuwenhof on Thursday, 22 November 2001.
The
open day is organised by Mrs Morkel, who is also the chairperson of the Western
Cape Premier’s Wife’s Charity Fund. A
large portion of the funds raised during this day will be donated to the Child
Welfare Society.
“I
established the fund in 1998 as a means to contribute to the alleviation of
poverty and suffering in the Western Cape,” says Mrs Morkel.
The
fund raises money through special projects and contributions from the corporate
and private sector, and will exist for as long as there is a Premier’s wife,
irrespective of the party in power in the Western Cape.
“This
open day is one of these special projects, and I can’t think of any better way
to raise funds for a good cause than inviting the public to enjoy the tranquil
atmosphere of Leeuwenhof,” Mrs Morkel continues.
The
open day will take place between 10h30 and 15h00, and the public are invited to
enjoy the numerous food and wine stalls, cosmetics, arts, craft and fashion and
an auction.
Mrs
Morkel also invites companies to sponsor 10 tickets at R100 per head as part of
the day’s fundraising endeavours.
The
public as well as companies that would like to buy / sponsor tickets for the
day, can contact Sanet Krügel or Janie Boshoff on (021) 483 4705/6 or fax (021)
