JOIN IN CITY MARCH AGAINST VIOLENCE AND ABUSE ON WOMEN AND CHILDREN

The Provincial Administration Western Cape’s (PAWC) Chief Directorate Human Rights Programmes and Poverty Relief urges all people of the Western Cape and the city to join in a city march on Monday, 10 December 2001 at 12h00.

The march will be held in solidarity against violence and abuse on women and children in the province. “Enough is enough. Help us break the culture of silence and become a force for change,” said Joe Eder, Director of the Chief Directorate Human Rights Programmes and Poverty Relief at PAWC.

The plea comes days after the public signing of a pledge recommitting the government and people of the Western Cape in the fight against gender violence, as part of the International 16 days of Activism against Gender Violence, which ends on International Human Rights Day, 10th December.

The march will start at Keizergracht at 12h00 and proceed to 7 Wale Street where a copy of the pledge and signatures will be handed over. The public is asked to assemble as from 11h30 to ensure the march starts on time.
