CITY COUNCIL TO HAND R500 000 TO SEVEN CHARITIES

The City of Cape Town is to take an unusual donor gratuity of R500 000 received from the structured sale of land at the old Power Station site on the Foreshore to Investec Bank and hand this to seven registered charities.

This is in line with City Council’s policy of providing funding support - where possible - to recognised local organisations involved directly in community health and safety and security issues.

The recipient organisations all work specifically with the care of persons living with HIV/AIDS or with the rehabilitation and upliftment of especially street children, destitute persons and youth in impoverished communities.

The cheques, ranging from R50,000.00 to R80,000.00, will be handed over by Executive Committee Member for Economic Development, Tourism and Property Management, Councillor Kent Morkel.
