NEW WEB DIRECTORY PUTS AFRICA FIRMLY ON LINE

Latest addition to the Internet is a new Web directory designed to provide absolute and easy worldwide access to websites from Cape to Cairo.

Recently launched in Cape Town, www.africanwebpages.com  is the brainchild of Francois Terblanche who believes that the Internet has a vastly important role to play in the development of Africa as a global force in the world economy.

"Ultimately, this directory will become a focal point and funnel for the interactive sourcing of a limitless array of information relating to every aspect of life on this continent. It's going to put Africa firmly on the Internet map," he says.

With categories including the arts and humanities, business, education, recreation and sports, government and society and culture amongst others, each is further indexed to provide quick listings of WebPages by country of origin.

"Then it's only one click away from viewing the relevant site from anywhere on the African continent and accessing whatever information is available," said Terblanche.

In the Business and Economy category alone, there are some 69 subject headings as diverse as listings of business schools and libraries, employment, manufacturers, media, construction, real estate, petroleum and oil, security, stock brokers and warehousing sites.

This is good news for the local and international business community wanting to interact with the African experience.

Inclusion in the directory involves a very reasonable once-off fee (R1590) to cover the cost of maintaining listed information. Thereafter, any listing changes are made free of charge and webmaster, Terblanche has the responsibility of maintaining the overall directory site.

"A directory by its very nature, has to be current and relevant to the needs of both its listed participants and those who use it to source information," he said.

Terblanche aims to ensure that www.africanwebpages.com  rapidly becomes the most up to date and complete shop window for the Africa of tomorrow.
