page one
Psitek (Pty) Ltd, Africa’s world leaders in developing and
manufacturing telecommunication solutions for the global market since 1990,
will be displaying two innovative products at the 10th International
Exhibition in
The Psitek Jembi

The Jembi is a pay phone that is used as a business tool for
the vending of voice calls, SMS and even pre-paid GSM PIN tokens. Portable and
reliable, it has a built-in rechargeable battery and antenna and can be powered
by an external power sourcesuch as mains current, an external battery or solar
panel.
The Jembi is
There are three key players in the Jembi
distribution chain. Psitek appoints distributors who manage the units and, in
turn, contract mobile network operators (MNOs) who operate the Jembi in the
public domain. The distributors sell talk time to Jembi owners on a pre-paid
basis, the public pay the MNOs to make calls or send SMSs and the MNOs pay the
distributors at a lower rate than they charge the public.
In order
to manage the credit risk, the Jembi contains purse manager firmware, meaning
that the unit will only work if the purse contains money. Only the distributors
can load the virtual money and they only do so once the MNOs have paid real
money to the distributors.

For security purposes, each SIM card will only work with its
allocated unit and can also be set to work at certain base stations. If it is
moved from its allocated venue, the unit will inform the relevant person. This
is to prevent sellers from encroaching on one another’s territories.
It also offers the option of a remote unit, allowing the
user privacy when making a call.
The Psitek Fusion 100

The second product, the Fusion 100, is a GSM interface cost
saving device that allows landline calls to be routed via a GSM cellular
network, offering the security and hardiness of standard telephone units. This
saves companies money by providing cost-effective calls to mobiles by being
connected to a PABX, standard PSTN telephone or a serial port.
to the Fusion
100 connected on its trunk lines. Billing is then done on a GSM network at a
more cost effective rate.
Fusion 100 also supplies a temporary telecommunications infrastructure
in areas where there is none, such as on building sites or in disaster areas.
The Fusion 101 is also available in a card based rack
version for larger companies where the demand exists for mulitiple Fusion
installations. Each card has the functionality of the Fusion 100 and the rack
fits into a standard 19” frame used for LAN routing server equipment. It
requires one power supply and utilises up to two external antennae for up to 16
SIM cards.
The Fusion offers
features, such as optional battery backup, an easily accessible SIM card
holder, provision for an extended antenna cable, a Windows-based configuration
utility, remote management, field upgradeable via a serial port, network and
call statistics, a call back function, automatic call termination with warning
tones to restrict call duration, call barring, caller ID forwarding,
configurable tones, provision for SMS management and automatic or remote
reboot, among others.
It can be fitted to
many different makes of PABX and is configurable to allow for unique PABX
settings.

regions of the world, and creating product solutions that
are appropriate and meaningful to the lives of those living in these regions. “
Cliff Warren, the Psitek Business Development Executive Asia Pacific, who will be in Vietnam to sign up distributors, said, “Psitek, which is a leader in innovative global technology, is offering potential distributors a unique opportunity to market, sell and support products that are strong and reliable in a growing and competitive market. Besides the revenue that a distributor can make on retailing the products at no credit risk, there is potential significant recurring revenue opportunity and scope for tremendous job creation, social upliftment and enhanced communication.
“We are aware of products manufactured in other parts of the world which may cost less but are not as strong and reliable as ours and are not privy to the years of experience of a world leader, such as Psitek.”
Never afraid to tackle new and promising fields within the
industry, Psitek has enjoyed steady and continuous growth by focusing on key
niche market segments.
For the past eight years, the bulk of the
company resources has been aimed at the implementation of cutting edge
technology. By consistently maintaining product differentiation through
extensive research into product features and technological innovation, Psitek
focuses on exceeding customer needs and producing superior solutions.
