                                                                                                            page one

The Safety and Security directorate of the City of Cape Town has approved funding for an urban renewal workshop for the Mitchells Plain Neighbourhood Watch Association, which will take place from 15 till 17 April at the Chrysalis Academy in Tokai and will engage thirty leaders of the Mitchells Plain Neighbourhood Watch in team building, leadership training and strategic planning sessions.

According to the City’s Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security, Councillor David Erleigh, this is in line with his City Police directorate’s objectives to increase the level of unity among the leadership, to develop a programme of action, to identify development needs, to develop a plan to develop the zones and to improve the relationship with other stakeholders

He added, “Under the capable guidance of Mr Irvin Kinnes, we expect this presidential urban renewal project to provide a Mitchell’s Plain Neighbourhood Watch Association leadership that is more united and focused, with a clear plan of action.  Above all, we hope for an improved relationship between the Mitchells Plain Neighbourhood Watch Association and law enforcement agencies and a safer Mitchell’s Plain

“This is one of many examples of co-operation between the community and our City Police.  The Mitchells Plain Neighbourhood Watch Association identified the need and we got involved in this capacity building initiative.“

He added that the community had been involved in the identification and conceptualisation of the project, and will be involved in its implementation and monitoring, as well as operations and management
